Summary:

Melaka RGT increases Peninsular Malaysia’s gas supply by 27% We expect Malaysia’s maiden Regasification Terminal (RGT) in Melaka to commence operations within the next two weeks. A fast-tracked project, the RM2bn Melaka RGT is expected to help ease gas shortages in Peninsular Malaysia. With a design capacity of 530 mmscfd, the Melaka RGT will potentially add 26.5% of gas supply to Peninsular Malaysia (current gas supply from east cost shores is c. 2,000 mmscfd). In the initial phase where Melaka will likely process 190 mmscfd of LNG, 150 mmscfd gas has been allocated to the power sector. This is to help ease gas supply constraints. An additional 40 mmscfd of gas molecules will be piped to Gas Malaysia’s industrial users.
